Abstract:
Simplified version of Montana's National Forest locations, digitized from 1:126,720 scale Forest Visitors Maps.

This data is intended for general maps showing where the state's National Forests and their districts are. The forest polygons contain private land that has been removed from this simple representation.

This layer was removed from the State Library web site when a new layer was created in 2002.

This layer was created in 1991 from maps that were dated as early as 1975 and does not reflect any land swaps that the Forest Service has been involved in since them. The Deerlodge and Beaverhead National Forests have been combined into a single unit since this data was created. No attempt has been made to determine if the district names are still current.
